Trouble in Paradise

We were told it would be two quick stops from Lido Beach. I was anxious to get back to our quaint hostel on the canal and rest.

As I exited the crowded water-boat with my four girlfriends, I was sure that we only had a short five-minute walk. However, we quickly learned that this was wrong. As soon as we got off, we realized we had not only missed our stop, but also gotten off on the wrong Venician island.

We asked two men dressed in neon orange jumpsuits, working on an ambulance boat, for directions back to all’accademia.

Several minutes later, our water-boat arrived. As we stepped on, we made sure to double check that we were getting on the right boat.

Naturally… we were not. Needless to say, we once again left the boat. This time we were feeling frustrated and confused as we watched the men laugh and point at us from a distance.

Upon asking several more people, we eventually decided on a third boat to get us home. After more waiting and hoping, we finally got off at a stop on the correct island. This time there was only one small obstacle standing in our way—a long walk.

We still had not gotten off at the right stop, but decided that we follow the stone street signs back to all’academia.

When we finally arrived back we learned that if we had taken the correct boat from the beginning it was a quick and easy trip. What should have been two trouble-free stops turned into mass confusion. Two hours, three boats, and many sore feet later, we were finally home… to our hostel without air conditioning.
